Our politicians help the terrorists every time they use fear as a campaign tactic. The press helps every time it writes scare stories about the plot and the threat. And if we’re terrified, and we share that fear, we help. All of these actions intensify and repeat the terrorists’ actions, and increase the effects of their terror.
Bruce Schneier from wired.com
The article from which that quote was taken is very well written and worth a read.

Corruption, bribery, and graft are the inevitable results of the undue influence of money in politics. Men are put into office for the favors they can procure for the business interests that pay their election expenses, and not for the services they can render to their city, state, or nation. And every attempt to take the bestowal of public office out of the hands of the professional politician and restore it to the people is met by the solid opposition of the party “machine” backed by the accumulated funds of corruption and bribery.

I had a bunch of words typed about unity08.com. It is a quasi-party using the intarwebs (I hope they got the web 2.0 memo) to influence the election/get someone elected. Fortunately, I remembered that idc, selected those few paragraphs, and pressed delete. Life is easier with this philosophy.
idc, it’s like nihilism, but not exhausting at all.
